I use the Huntsville AL dialup (417-4120).
On EVERY SINGLE SESSION I HAVE DONE, I have seen MULTIPLE occurrences of a
syndrome where the connection apparently goes dead for a subjectively long
period (many seconds) then returns to life. During this time, any website
reference goes to "Resolving <name>", ping and tracert to ANY name go dead.
I don't know if these are provisioning problems on the Huntsville dialin,
bandwidth problems to the DNS server, or what.
I have also used dialup in Dallas TX, Austin TX, and Norwalk CT. I have
NEVER seen any such problems.
I am running Windows 98 on an IBM Thinkpad laptop, using the version of
dial-up networking that came with this machine. I see this problem ONLY on
the Huntsville dialup.
I have not yet tried the other Huntsville phone number.
